VILLA VERDI

SANT'AGATA of VILLANOVA SULL'ARDA (PC)

IL MUSEO E' CHIUSO DEFINITIVAMENTE

Giuseppe Verdi purchased the estate of Sant'Agata on the suggestion of Antonio Barezzi. Verdi planned to move his parents here and began to restore the manor house. In 1851, before the works ended, his mother (Luigia Uttini) died, so Giuseppe Verdi together with Giuseppina Stepponi decided to move in Sant'Agata, while his father stayed in the house in Busseto.

THE MUSEUM

The composer bought the Villa making it progressively more and more an extension of his art.

It was Verdi who carried out the sketches of the extension project with his own hands, and gave detailed indications for the choice of materials to be used, until it became as we see it today.

In this place the most famous Italian composer lived and wrote his music, enjoying the necessary privacy and silence for his creative genius and his shy and reserved character.

The original country manor house thus became in a few years the residence where the aesthetic canons of the time found a perfect realization that, even now, the most attentive visitor can understand and admire.

Today Villa Verdi, kept in the conservative state of the times of the great composer thanks to the Carrara Verdi family heir to the Maestro, represents the best key to understanding the immortal spirit of Verdi as the genius and the man.

The Villa still houses the universal heirs who, in absolute respect of the willingness of Giuseppe Verdi, keep it unchanged.

Part of the house is a museum. It is possible to visit the private rooms of Giuseppe Verdi and Giuseppina Strepponi.

THE PARK

The Park of Villa Verdi is included in the MAB Unesco biosphere of the Po Grande.

It has been designed by the Maestro Verdi in every detail: from the lemon house to the immense Ginko Biloba, from the romantic statues to the small lake in the shape of a treble clef, nothing is left to chance.

There is a splendid cave that served as a wine cellar, an icebox and an infinite variety of flowers and plants, such as the roses and magnolias that Giuseppina loved so much.

Everything is colored and shines in the different seasons, and among the avenues there are still the original benches where the Master retired and reflected on his compositions.
